Dr. David M. Gipp Endowed Scholarship

In memory of Dr. David M. Gipp Wicahpi Isnala or Lone Star (Standing Rock Sioux Tribe) 1946-2020.

Dr. David M. Gipp was the former President and Chancellor of United Tribes Technical College (UTTC), a tribal college in Bismarck, North Dakota, and a founding member of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC), the American Indian College Fund's parent organization.

As a founder of the tribally controlled education movement, Dr. Gipp was foundational to the current tribal college and university (TCU) system, which currently numbers 35 accredited post-secondary higher education institutions. TCUs serve more than 13,000 Native students annually, offering place-based and culturally relevant higher education, and for many college-bound students in Indian Country located on or near Indian reservations, TCUs are the only accessible higher learning institution within commuting distance.

Dr. Gipp's entire career was dedicated to developing TCUs advocating for American Indian and Alaska Native students and education equity. We invite you to ensure that his legacy for the love of learning continues by making a contribution to the Dr. David Gipp Endowed Scholarship.
